87 Year Old Women Gets Her Bachelors And Proves That It's Never Too Late

Posted on 16 August 2015

Next time you think it's too late to do something new in life, remind yourself about Elenor "Jean" Kops. Eleanor graduated from Nebraska-Lincoln University on Saturday. Oh yeah... she is 87 years old.

I was cruising around on Reddit and I stumbled across this story posted in The Lincoln Journal Star. I am so glad I did.

Elenor Kops had completed two years worth of classes in 1947. At that time, she married and began her life as a hard working mother raising five daughters. In 2011, Kops husband died and which point she said that she "needed to fill a void." Understandable after losing the love of your life for 60 years.

Kops daughter suggested that she go back to school. Originally Kops said she felt she was "too old." But eventually took the leap.

Kops reported how her teachers and younger class mates enjoyed her presence because she was able to give first-hand accounts on important historical events, post-WWII and the cultural revolution of the 60's and 70's.

"My professor was really interested in my papers." she said.

Her granddaughters even decorated the top of her graduation cap with the famous Wizard of Oz Quote.

"You had the power all along my dear."

This woman gives me hope. No matter what the circumstances, as long as there is air in your lungs it is never too late to try something new.

Kudos to you Ms. Elenor. You're a bad ass and you have cool purple hair!
